Who are we?

Philip Riley

Philip Riley is a software developer at Rosetta Stone, Ltd. He holds a bachelors degree in mathematics from the University of Chicago, and masters degrees in mathematics and computer science from Duke University and James Madison University. He is the author of numerous computer programs that analyze variants of Sudoku puzzles.

Laura Taalman

Laura Taalman is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at James Madison University. She holds a bachelors degree in mathematics from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in mathematics from Duke University. Her research interests include the mathematics of games and puzzles, and she has given lectures all over the country on the mathematics of Sudoku.

Calvin

Mr. Riley and Dr. Taalman live in Harrisonburg, Virginia with their 3-year-old son Calvin. Calvin enjoys drawing random lines on Sudoku puzzles.
